The Process of Creating the Pendant
The journey of designing the pendant for this collaboration begins with a rough sketch. An idea brought to life through Matser’s innovative design process. Using specialized 3D modeling software, this sketch is transformed into a detailed, lifelike model. Once the design is approved, technical details are checked to ensure flawless execution. A 3D print of the design is created from a special wax mixture, which will serve as the prototype for the next steps.
From here, the model enters the foundry, where it undergoes a meticulous process known as “treeing.” The prototype is attached to a wax rod and coated in plaster, then subjected to a vacuum machine to remove all air, ensuring the mold is free of imperfections. Once the mold hardens, it is heated in an oven for 12 hours to melt the wax, leaving a cavity where the molten metal either silver or gold is poured in. The casting process is followed by cooling, cleaning, and polishing, which results in a perfectly finished “mother model.”
This model serves as the basis for creating a silicone mold, which can be reproduced indefinitely. Each pendant is polished to perfection, with the final touches added, including stone settings and any necessary metalwork.
