KOPJEK: 15 Years of Legendary Parties
KOPJEK’s journey began 15 years ago in a deserted farmhouse in Kolham, with 250 ravers and the police at the door. What started as a private gathering for friends quickly grew into something much bigger. Co-founders Pascal Rakers and Gerard Hulshof initially threw underground parties in secret locations, operating “under the radar.”
Their breakthrough came when they organized a party at Golden Arm, selling 800 tickets via SMS. Overcrowding and chaos led them to adopt an official ticketing system, marking their shift to a more professional operation. Over the years, their events took place in unconventional venues, abandoned warehouses, swimming pools, and even an ice hockey arena making them legendary in Groningen’s dance scene.
Sadly, Gerard passed away six years ago, but Pascal has kept the KOPJEK spirit alive, continuing their legacy of bold, creative events. Today, KOPJEK remains a key player in Groningen’s nightlife, with its iconic parties still drawing massive crowds and staying true to its underground roots.
